Tesla Electric CarsTesla Motors is a privately owned electric car company run by well-known PayPal entrepreneur Elon Musk.  The corporation is headquartered in San Carlos, California and is at the forefront of the design and marketing of high performance electric cars.  The company was able to expand and improve in a short time thanks to millions of dollars in venture capital from some a variety of internet moguls and other entrepreneurs.

Tesla Motors manufactures one main production vehicle at this time.  It is called the Tesla Roadster and is one of the most prestigious all-electric sports cars on the market today.  It can travel 221 miles on a single charge and it goes form 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds.  It also boasts a top speed of 125 mph which is almost unheard of for an all-electric car.  Top off all of that, it only costs 2 cents a mile to operate the Roadster.

Tesla Electric CarsThe first prototypes of the car were unveiled in 2006 and the car has been in retail production since 2008.  There have been 600 Roadsters manufactured and there is a waiting list of hundreds of people waiting for more to be made.  An upgraded version of the Tesla Roadster will be released in June 2009 and it will cost $128,00o.  Tesla is also developing roof mounted solar panels that could be affixed to the home chargers that are used to recharge the vehicle.  This would allow the charger to give the car enough energy to go 50 miles without taking any energy from the larger electric power grid.

Tesla currently has operations in Europe Asia and the US and plans to branch out to the global market for electric transportation.  Tesla is also implementing plans for a chain of service centers around the US to provide service to Tesla car owners.  In addition to the Tesla Roadster, a sedan called the Model S will be released in 2010 for an expected cost of $60,000 per car.
